Mixed Fours Final To Be Played

Eleven Mixed Fours teams entered the competition on Saturday morning; because of the odd number of teams, Byes were drawn and three rounds were played and one on Sunday morning.

Today started off fine and the extra game got started at 9.00am with Bryan Furness playing Rod Cotter.
Rob and his tea started well and after five ends was leading by 6 points. Bryan’s team further moved  with a couple of single ends but the dramatic changes came on the 10-11 ends when his team scored a 6 and then a 5 putting them 6 in front of is opponents by 14-8.  A further 2 for Rob’s team failed to close the gap and they had been put out of post-section play.

Jim Bagnall, Hildi Ewart, Julie Stichbury and Grahame Law got their game going against Fred Adams, Audrey Sciascia, Bronwyn McMahon and Omeka, but things just didn’t work out for the latter team, the match being won easily by Jim’s players, 16-6.

Bryan Furness, Murray Griffin, Margaret Lowndes and Bella Law played their semi final game against Neville Turnbull, Barry Cross, Liz Galloway and Sharon Turnbull.  The scoreboard showed that there was only one extra end played between them but the points scored by the teams were quite different. It was just one of those days it would seem, when only a single point could be won, this happening to Bryan’s team on 5 occasions. In contrast, things must have gone a little  better for Neville’s players when as well as two singles, they also added two 2’s but then a dramatic six.  With one end to go, the game was called off with Neville in front 13-5.

The weather also changed in the afternoon with light rain falling by mid-afternnon so the decision  has been made to play the final possibly on or near 15 July.
We look forward to another interesting contest.
