New Year’s Eve Gala

It was no surprise this morning to hear and see that the rain was still falling and there was no hope of there being a final gala for this year. The weather at times has been very changeable including for the first time for many years, snow in the town.

But in spite of the weather, we have had a very good year with success in gaining new members, the Dales green proving to be a very good investment, allowing for a lot of play on a good green throughout the winter and the cotula green playing really well. Members should be proud of both and our thanks go to all who in one way or another, have worked on them. All should realise that greens don’t just become ‘good’ by chance.

On the greens, players also have done well with at Centre level, and the Men’s and Women’s Interclub teams have all made the top 4 to play-off in January for the respective titles.

Business House was again most successful with lots of helpers giving Brian Cooper a hand in its running. Players have been involved in Rotary, Horowhenua 5’s and Galas and the regular roll ups.

For most members, playing bowls is what gets them joining the club, and as well, housey, indoor bowls, cards and Mah Jong are still available.

It still is great to see how many get involved in the other activities that help make a club run successfully – putting out the scoreboards, cleaning out the rubbish bins, selecting teams, looking after the kitchen, and so on … our thanks to you all.

We look forward to all members getting involved where they can both on and off the greens, making 2012 a great year for the club.
