Scottish Mist

A delayed start this morning for our annual Haggis Gala as a result of early morning rain. A later start at 10.00am meant that we played four games of 8 ends in on and off sunshine throughout the day.

All games were played on the Dales green and we had a full green with teams from Palmerston North, Whitby, Manakau and local clubs.

Lunch for all players was supplied from the entry fee and our thanks to the ladies who did all the necessary preparations.

The title of this blog  is because in the early afternoon we saw steam coming off the damp green and because it was a Haggis Gala, we presumed the mist was from Scotland!

At the end of play  the winners were:

1st  John Mears, Ray Hudson, Peter Phillips – 3½ wins, 22 ends, 34 points

2nd  Gordon Buick, Gordon Thorby, Bill Sanders – 3½ wins, 19 ends, 36 points

3rd  Peter Gardner, Paul Gardner, Jim Hamer – 3 wins, 19 ends, 3 points.

Lucky drawn prizes went to:

Lead – John Ellis,   Two  – Lana Mahupuku,  Skip – Fred Adams.

As usual, the Haggis day was celebrated in traditional fashion with Murray Easton piping the entry of the group  and the address then given by Don McAllister from Whitby. (We are very pleased to welcome Don and his team each year to play in the Gala and to give the Haggis address.)

The afternoon tea followed and available to all, was a chance to sample the haggis – as shown below – Marion offering Stafford a sample – he assured me it was quite tasty- and I will have to believe him!!
