A different day altogether for playing the Men’s Handicap Singles Post- Section, sunny and hardly any wind – what a contrast to yesterday.
Nine had qualified and play started with a game between Joe Wnek and Jim Bagnall, the later winning 21-13.
The next round saw wins going to Ken Hayward, Rob Cotter, Omeka and Jim again, all with clear wins.
The semi final games were much tighter, Ken beating Rob 21-18 and Omeka having a close finish with Jim at 21-19
So to the final and this was between Ken and Omeka (handicap +3). Those present to watch saw a close game with very good bowls being played, the win finally going to Omeka 21-16.
Thanks must go to the personnel who helped run the two days’ competition and in particular, Lodzia for her work which included marking the final.
There had been some discussion as to whether four games should be played (noted in the handbook that three games a day were to be played) and this in fact is what happened, all players concerned playing no more that three games. All still fit and smiling at the end of play.
Ken Hayward, runner up
Congratulations to Omeka for being added as a Reserve to the Kapiti team which will be playing at the Palmerston North Bowling Club on October the 22nd against the Hawkes Bay. Note also that Gary Wylie, a member of our club as well as Central, is to play in the Men’s Fours team Congratulations to both players,
