Hammond Shield

Today was the opportunity for local bowling clubs to take part in playing for the Hammond Shield, a competition that has been played for, for many years.
A nine o’clock started play with Singles and Fours being played and in the afternoon, Pairs and Triples.
Both greens were used, the A Section on the Dales artificial green and the B Section on the Cotula and the challenge was there for all teams and players.
My Fours team on the cotula  went down 27-10 and what was strange was that our other Blue team on the artificial directly behind us, went down with the same score. Our opponents really played well and deserved their win.
In the afternoon my Triples team did better and we had a good win against the RSA/Women’s team making us feel a bit better.
The results came in at the end of play, and were announced as follows:

1st – Central – 14 wins, 2 Draws, a total of 30 points.
2nd – Levin  –  9 wins, 1 Draw, a total of 19 points.
3rd – RSA  –  5 wins, 1 Draw,  a total of 11 points
Congratulation to Central Levin for winning the competition.

Terry Smith, Central Levin,
receiving the Hammond Shield from Margaret Griffin
Thanks go to Margaret Griffin and Pat Wikstrom, recorders on the day and to Barnaby Hamid , our Umpire, together who did a lot of the basic running of the event, but one must also thank all our club members who helped in one way or another in making it such a successful day. No doubt, the other clubs also had their helping members, so from us all who took part, a big thank you for a great day.
