2014 Championship Fours Completed

Today saw the Men’s and Women’s post-section play take place on the cotula green. It wasn’t the best ‘summer’s’ day for the competition, generally cloudy and with gusting wind, but the games led to the finals of this seasons Fours Championship.

Dianne Short’s team played Lodzia Wnek’s Four in the semifinal with the latter team winning 18-11.
Margaret Griffin’s team which had had a bye, now faced Lodzias’ team in the final. The gusting wind made it difficult at times but things were close, 8-6 near half way through the game. The dropping of 7 points on the eighth end was unfortunate for Margaret’s team and her opponents went on to win the game, 25 – 9. Well done girls.

The Men’s semi-finals were played in the morning. Shoota Ballinger’s Four played Neville Turnbull’s team and won the game 17- 5 while on another rink, Fred Adams team had a good win over Rob Cotter’s Four, 19-12.

The match between the two men’s finalists also was played in the strong wind. One would at time think that this would make it very difficult for players to take consistent lines with their bowls but it was a challenge that was overcome so often during the game.
Overall the two teams won nearly the same number of ends, Shoota often winning ends with 2 points whereas Fred was only winning single points.  This led to Shoota and his players taking out the final with a score of 16 to 7.
An interesting game for club members to watch and talk about how things were being played … and often, what they would have done if they were on the green!!!

Some real skills were on display today throughout both matches and the bowlers should be proud of their overall play.

PS.  Would have been an interesting time at the Wnek’s home tonight as they talked about the two great games that were played at the club today.
