There certainly has been a lot going on for club members and teams in recent days; Rotary, Pennants, BKC Junior 2x4x2 Pairs, Anniversary Day Mini Gala, Championship 4’s, Roll-Ups
This morning was quite wet and I was surprised to hear that our four Women Pennant teams left early to play at two clubs south of Levin. It will be interesting to hear how they got on – on or off the greens.
The Championship Fours took place recently and because of an odd number of teams listed in the Men’s section, an extra game had to be played on the Sunday morning. Post section play finally got started and the winning teams were skipped by Lodzia Wnek and Shoota Ballinger.
Men’s Rotary games were played on Wednesday, two teams playing at Foxton Beach (2 wins) and the two at Levin RSA (4 wins). Six wins will have made our Rotary selector quite happy!)
Our Men’s selector has been busy selecting teams for Interclub which is to be played at the start of February, and teams for Round 1&2 of the Takaro Nines. A busy time of the year for many of our players.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, we’ll have the Triples Gala played, teams made with any combinations, all aiming to take out the win.
Business House also got started last week, not the best weather for the event but another year of this activity and it was was a chance for the teams, some past, some new, to loosen up for the official competition. Better weather we hope.
The coming weekend is the chance for many of us to see our Junior players taking part in their Singles competition and on Sunday, Diana McGill and Dianne Short who have been selected by the Centre Selectors, will be playing in the Centre’s Quadrangular Tournament on the Paraparaumu Beach greens.
Yesterday it was great for us to hear how well our Junior players who had entered the Centre’s Junior 2x4x2 tournament had competed. By the end of the first day, Jim Bagnall and Diana McGill, Bill Clelland and Jan Dawson, Robert Falconer and Julie Stichbury, had qualified.
Robert went down after a very close game against Gary Wylie, but Jim and Bill made it through to the next round. As it happened, they then had to face each other and that must have been a close game, the final score, 15-14, giving the win to Bill and Diana. The final was then their last game and another exciting battle, this time between them and E Marshall from Kapiti. Our club pair did so well and the final score was so very again, 12-13, but the game ended with them being the Runners-up. Well done to all our players and congratulations to Jim and Diana on how well they had done.
Back at home yesterday, Anniversary Day, was just a mini-gala. Not a great number took part but we who did, enjoyed our time on the green. The six end games resulted as follows:
1st Rex Spicer’s team – 2 wins, 13 ends and 21 points.
2nd Alice Spicer’s team – 2 wins, 10 ends and 24 points.
3rd Brian Furness’s team – 2 wins, 10 ends and 20 points
Time to relax and take part in tomorrows Gala . Fine weather please.
