Today saw the first round of competition in the Grant’s Whiskey Corner to Corner event.
This was at the end of a busy day at the club which started at 9.30am with a 2x4x2 Gala, sponsored by Grimes and Browning. The cotula green ran extremely well and was enjoyed by a full field.
At the end of play, Susan and I had won all our games to take 1st prize, in second place with 3 wins and a draw were Brian Paquin and Liz Galloway, and third place went to Omeka and Grace Virtue with 3 wins and 18 ends.
At five o’clock the Corner to Corner competition commenced on the artificial green. Anyone wishing to take part had to report in by 5.15 pm and it soon was obvious that many of our members were keen to join in.
Four sub groups took part, with the player in each whose bowl ended up nearest to the corner, going into the final.
This saw Brian Cooper, Grace Virtue, Neville Winiata and Paul Gardner front up for the tonight’s final.
The result was a popular win to Grace Virtue, the only women left in the play off. It had been a good day for her as she had already taken out 3rd prize in the 2x4x2 early. No wonder she was wearing a big smile.
Next week should see a bigger crowd trying to win the whiskey, once the news goes out about how easy it is to take part, even though it is not so easy to be the winner. At least Grace will not be a threat as winners are not allowed to take any further part in the competition until the finals.
Come along club members and join in the fun.

Proud of their efforts!
Whose bowl is nearest to the corner?

All eyes are watching the measure being taken.
A measure is needed and Grace makes it through to the final
