After an unimpressive start to the last qualifying rounds yesterday morning (those present will know what I am referring to), one more team qualified for post section play.
The quarter final games, just like the day before, were played in windy conditions, making exact draw play difficult one would think. Certainly this was true for some but in my game against Fred and Omeka, you would have thought that every time Omeka played his bowl, the wind must have dropped. End after end he was on the jack, forehand or backhand making no difference to him at all. Most impressive, but a pity he had to do it against Noel and me. Fred also did his bit and they were through to the semi-final, winning our game 23 – 12.
The other games in this round went as follows: Grant Pratt 21 v’s Rex Spicer 12, Neville Turnbull v’s Ken Hayward 26 – 16, Noel McCutcheon v’s Brian Thompson 22 – 8.
Grant Pratt and Shoota Ballinger didn’t start well in their semi-final game against Fred and Omeka, finally scoring their first point on the 9th end. By the 15th end Fred was leading 22-9 but then dropped 7 points on the next three ends. He must have been getting a bit worried by this time, thinking that their opponents were on a roll, but the end soon arrived with Fred and Omeka winning the game, 26-18.
The other match between Neville Turnbull and Noel McCutcheon resulted in a closer final score but the card indicates that Noel and Brian Paquin scored more often but mostly in singles. By the 12the end, they were just one point ahead, 12-11. Neville and Steve Felgitscher needed 4 on the final end to get an extra end played, but this didn’t eventuate so Noel and Brian go on to play Fred and Omeka in the Final. I presume this will be next Saturday.
