Melva Ritson/Mexted Cup

A Women’s and Men’s team represented the club today in two Centre events.

At Waikanae, Margaret Griffin (s), Ann Rolston, Grace Virtue and Gwen McLauchlan played three games of 16 ends and though no win was recorded, two games were lost on the last end.

Our Mexted Cup team representing the workers of the club played at Paekakariki and though it was fine, the wind made it very difficult to maintain line and length. As an example, I played a bowl which was picked up by the wind and went right across the head. I thought I had adjusted my second bowl but the wind changed around completely and my bowl ended up on the other side. Quite a challenge and after winning only 5 of the 10 ends in the first game against Whitby, it looked as though we were going to have a long day on the green.

As it turned out, Murray Griffin, Rex Spicer and Paul Gardner all played well in the next three games (one of which we won 17-1) and with three wins, we took out second place to the Raumati Team which had four wins, thus winning the cup.

It had been an interesting and challenging day.
