Three Qualify

Congratulations to Rob Cotter, Brian Paquin and Neville Turnbull for qualifying yesterday at the National Singles. I haven’t any further details on any of the games played by our club players in any of the events; none of our Pairs managed to qualify. Will keep my ears open for some background stories.

We Beat the Rain

Drizzle and then rain was forecast to take over this afternoon but didn’t eventuate until late this evening so we were able to complete the final gala for the year 2009 without getting wet. Margaret had said that we would get through the day without any bother and she was right. Bringing home the bacon (or was it ham) for …

A Very Good Week

It started last Sunday with our annual Christmas get-together, a very good meal enjoyed by 53 members and friends followed by the chance to dance and enjoy the music played by Paul Skilton, Norman Panlilio and friend. It would appear that some of our members had had a hard day on their feet and were a little reluctant to take …

Juniors in Action

The one advantage from the overnight rain closing the cotula green, was that the Junior Singles Championships had to be played on the artificial green which meant that club members had a great view of the games. The first day of their championships had been washed out so the first games played yesterday saw the completion of the first round. …

Our cotula green was set aside for a Women’s Section playing in the Centre Pairs and I believe the green was prepared by Neville Winiata, cutting and rolling it in the absence …

Stage 1

The bright part of the day was that nearly all who attended the Special Meeting held at the club this morning, voted for the first stage of replacing the present artificial green. A lot of work had gone into preparing for this meeting by a sub committee which was set up by the club’s Executive. Their research had been sent …

Today’s Stars

There were not many at todays 2x4x2 Bowen Pairs, but those who played enjoyed a bit of sunshine. I had Ian Averis and Joe had Jack Grey which was interesting just because Jack played with me yesterday in the gala. Jack and Ian had a good tussle during the game and on this particular end, they did so well that …
